South of the heavily touristed island of Langkawi is the Pulau Paya Marine Park, rated as having the best diving off Peninsular Malaysia's West Coast. Unlike many of the other islands in the often choppy Straits of Malacca, Pulau Paya has good visibility for divers. According to Captain Sim Yong Wah, Malaysia's most celebrated underwater photographer, the coral garden on the western end of the island is "one of the most colorful I have ever seen."
