Transportation FAQs

What are the taxi rates? 
The taxis are metered and the meter starts at $3.00 and 40 cents is added for each additional mile. Additional passengers over two are $3.00 each.

What is the price of a tour bus from The Lucayan Harbour? 
The price may vary, depending on the size of the party; prices start from $25.00 per person. 

Do you have car rentals?
Yes we have a number of car rental agencies located at the airport. Contact Cartwright's Rent-A-Car for more information.

Do you have public buses? What is the cost and frequency?  
Yes we do have public buses that operate from 7 a.m. to sunset. The fare is $1.00 per person in the Freeport and Lucaya areas. For the outlying areas of West End and East End the fare is $2. The route is from the downtown area to the International Bazaar and Port Lucaya Marketplace, our two main shopping areas.

Are there any boats that one can take to other islands? 
The M/V Marcella III, the local Mail Boat, leaves Nassau Harbour for Freeport on Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. It returns to Nassau on Fridays at 5:00 p.m.  The trip takes approximately 12 hours; sailings depend on the weather.
The other islands are also serviced out of Nassau.

How does one travel between the other islands?

The national flag carrier, Bahamasair has flights to the major islands of The Bahamas, via Nassau.
