September 15 - February 1, 1998
The Fleet and the Danish West Indies Royal Danish Naval Museum, Copenhagen. The exhibition highlights that it was 80 years ago, April 17, 1917, Denmark sold the Danish West Indies - the Caribbean islands of St. John, St. Thomas, and St. Croix to the United States for the sum of 25 million dollars.

September 26 - December 20
Russia's Danish Tsarina Dagmar. Royal Reception Rooms, Christiansborg Palace, Copenhagen. Denmark's King Christian IX was known in the last century as the father-in-law of Europe. Three out of six children dominated the royal houses of Britain, Russia, Greece and Denmark. Princess Dagmar (1847-1928) married Russian Tsar Alexander III (1845-94) and was Empress of Russia for 36 years until the Russian revolution in 1917.

October 3 - February 8, 1998
New Art from Denmark and Scania. Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, Humlebæk, North Sealand Exhibition focusing on the current state of affairs in Danish and Scanian art. Scania is the southernmost province of Sweden. On view is new art created for the exhibition by painters, sculptors and video and installation artists of all ages living or working in Denmark or Sweden.

October 10 - January 11, 1998
Missing Links - Alive! National Museum, Copenhagen. Major visiting exhibition brings the million year-long history of the human race to life, raising questions about the origins and development of the human species through the use of four amazing dioramas featuring moving robots. The public can experience the small, intelligent Austral-opithecus in the rain forest jungle three to four million years ago; progressing via Homo Erectus in the African Savannah two million years later; the extremely strong Neanderthal's harsh life during Europe's Ice Age, and the Cro-Magnon's paintings in the caves of Southern France.

Christmas Market at Tivoli Gardens. Copenhagen. Tivoli celebrates the holiday season with more than 50 kiosks and tents filled with gift items and Danish foods; holiday fare and drinks served in a number of restaurants and cafes; and ten of the famous rides open to be enjoyed by children as well as adults. The Great Christmas Parade. Copenhagen. 11 a.m. Father Christmas arrives at the Copenhagen railroad station. He will lead the parade through the city of Copenhagen and light Christmas trees in the streets and squares. A multitude of children, jazz musicians, angels, and fairy-tale figures will be around to assist him.

All Year of 1998
Roskilde 1000 Years. Roskilde, 20 miles west of Copenhagen. The whole of 1998 will be characterized by celebrations in Roskilde, a town in Denmark noted for its impressive Cathedral with 38 royal tombs, its Viking Ship Museum, and its townscape. January 17 - official opening; June 23 - Midsummer Eve floating fireworks on the fjord; September 5 - Roskilde Night to mark the opening of the official anniversary weekend.
