Where To Stay

Cyprus has many fine hotels, from large and luxurious to small and simple. The tourist office offers a free Hotel Guide.

Transportation

Arriving & Departing: Major airlines fly to Larnaka through their hubs in Europe. Flying time from London is four hours; one and a half hours from Athens. Service is frequent between Larnaka and Pafos.

Ferries link Cyprus with Piraeus, the Greek islands and the Middle East.

Holidays

New Year’s Day, Epiphany (Jan. 6), Green Monday (Mar. 10), Greek Independence Day (March 25), Greek Cypriot National Day (April 1), Good Friday (April 25), Easter Sunday and Monday (April 27 and 28), Pentecost/Kataklysmos (June 16), Assumption (Aug. 15), Cyprus Independence Day (Oct. 1), Christmas and Boxing Day (Dec. 25 and 26).

Money Matters

Banks are open weekdays from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Banks will exchange currency for tourists every afternoon except Tuesday. Airport banks offer 24-hour service. The Cypriot pound is divided into 100 cents. $1 = 0.47 CYP as of Dec. 2, 1996.
