THIRTY-SECOND ANNUAL LONG ISLAND SAILING REGATTA SAILING REGATTA [Long Island]
Forty to 50 locally built sailing sloops, representing each of the major Bahamian
islands, vie for championship in a major showdown on the waters off Salt Pond, Long Island, during this five-day event. Winners are awarded trophies and prize money, in four classes of vessel -- A, B, C & D -- ranging in length from 15' to 28'. A festive atmosphere reigns onshore, with entertainment by native rake & scrape bands, sporting activities and the sale of native dishes. A spectator boat is available for close-up views of the races. Visitors to our islands are especially invited to join in the fun and conviviality surrounding the favorite Bahamian pastime of regatta sailing. Special mailboat and plane charters depart Nassau for Long Island Regatta on the afternoon of May 21. Location: Salt Pond, Long Island.
