THIRTY-SECOND ANNUAL LONG ISLAND SAILING REGATTA SAILING REGATTA [Long Island] Forty to 50 locally built sailing sloops, representing each of the major Bahamian islands, vie for championship in a major showdown on the waters off Salt Pond, Long Island, during this five-day event. Winners are awarded trophies and prize money, in four classes of vessel -- A, B, C & D -- ranging in length from 15' to 28'. A festive atmosphere reigns onshore, with entertainment by native rake & scrape bands, sporting activities and the sale of native dishes. A spectator boat is available for close-up views of the races. Visitors to our islands are especially invited to join in the fun and conviviality surrounding the favorite Bahamian pastime of regatta sailing.
