![]() Around the Village... Serge Testa has sailed solo around the world - amazingly, on a 12 foot boat. His voyage took place from 1984 through 1987, earning him a place in the Guinness Book of Records (which he still holds), for sailing around the world solo in the smallest vessel. Along his journey, he wrote a book entitled "500 Days", now available in the U.S. from Robert Hale and Company. It's partly from the proceeds of this book that Mr. Testa makes his second voyage around the world. This time, he's sailing with his wife Robin, on a considerably larger 60 foot sailboat. Mr. Testa also writes articles for a number of sailing magazines including Sail, Nautiques (French), South Africa Yachting, and Off Shore(Brazil). The Testas recently made a stop at the Harbour Village Marina Bonaire. During their stay, avid sailors and non-sailors alike were treated to the spectacular slides of Serge's first voyage. Serge, who had stopped on Bonaire during his first voyage, recalls that the marina was barely finished then. Mr. Testa would like the many friends he's made during his voyages to know that he can be reached at 1552 Santa Lena Drive, Danville, California. Orlando Quartet Performs at Harbour Village Harbour Village recently hosted the Orlando Quartet, an award winning String Quartet from the Netherlands. The talented group, consisting of Arvid Engegard, Heinz Oberdorfer, Ferdinand Erbilch, and Stefan Motz, delighted guests with an after-dinner performance of Haydn, Beethoven and Brahms. Among the groups accolades is first prize in the International Competition for String Quartets of the European Broadcasting Union in Helsiki. The group has also toured extensively throughout the world, and have made several recordings. One of Harbour Village's own resident iguanas takes an afternoon snack on the deck at La Balandra. Loved by guests and resort personnel alike, the iguana dines on leftover leafy vegetables from the resort's restaurants. On the Links for MS Harbour Village's recent participation in Broward County's 17th Annual National Multiple Sclerosis Society Golf Tournament helped the organization to exceed this year's fund-raising goals. Held at Bonaventure Country Club in South Florida, the tournament raised more than $33,000 in the fight against MS. Easter was eggstra-special this year for the children who participated in Harbour Village's Easter Sunday Kids Program. Fun times included movies, crafts and an egg hunt in the garden. Shelter Continues Good Deeds Hindered by a lack of funding, Bonaire's Animal Shelter was recently in jeopardy of closing down. When news spread about the shelter's plight, the community rallied to keep this important organization in operation. Harbour Village and its construction company, Tecnoconsult joined in the mission by donating workers and supplies to help improve the shelter's facilities. So far, two new kennels have been constructed at the shelter, under the guidance of Frank Gonzalez, Jr., Managing Director of Tecnoconsult and Jorge Haack, General Manager of Harbour Village. The shelter provides a valuable service in preserving Bonaire's precious wildlife resources. SurrealisticVacation Surrealist artist Jorge Camacho recently vacationed at Harbour Village accompanied by his wife Margarita. Recognized as one of the most important surrealists of this century, Mr. Camacho's involvement with the movement dates back to 1961. It was then, on the advise of his friend, poet Andre Breton, that Camacho began participating in art exhibits with such contemporaries as Miro, Tangy, and Dali. The couple, who reside in Paris, France are planning to return to Harbour Village later in the year with plans to paint Harbour Village and Bonaire from a surrealist point of view.
