Outdoor beauty abounds at Harbour Village. So, it's more than likely you'll spend a great deal of your vacation-time here exposed to the warmth of the sun. The average temperature on Bonaire is a pleasant 82° -
all year long. With this comfortable climate, it's easy to underestimate the strength of the sun's ultra violet rays, and the effects they can have on your well-being.

Fortunately, following a few simple tips from the Spa at Harbour Village can help to minimize any effects of too much sun, and maximize your vacation pleasure.

Always use a moisturizing sun screen before spending time outdoors. It's recommended that you use a product with a SPF (sun protection factor) of 15 or higher.
Many sunblock products are available at the resort's Sundry Shop, including sunscreen specifically made for children.

Apply liberal amounts of sunscreen 15 to 30 minutes before going outdoors. Cover your entire body and re-apply after swimming or exercise.

If you're planning a long hike on one of Bonaire's scenic routes,

it's a good idea to apply sunscreen beneath your clothing. Wear light colored clothing to help deflect the sun. Choosing clothing with a tight weave will also help to shield against prolonged exposure.

Caps and wide brimmed hats can be especially useful during the strongest sun of the day, between noon and 2 pm.

Sunglasses are also a vacation-must-have. Check the labels and buy a pair that blocks at least 99 percent of UV rays. You'll find an assortment of sunglasses and hats in The Shop at Harbour Village.

Drink plenty of water before and after the sun to keep your skin and body hydrated.

When you bathe or shower, use a mild soap and lukewarm water (never hot). Afterwards, lightly pat dry and apply a moisturizer over your slightly wet skin.

The Spa at Harbour Village offers a wide selection of treatments to help replenish your
skin after a day in the sun or
in the water.

Try the restorative qualities of the Spa's Bonairian Salt Exfoliate; an invigorating scrub using the island's own sea salt. Or, the
Algae Full Body Mask; a fragrant, rehydrating mask designed to replenish your skin's natural fluids and nourish your body.

The Spa's After-Sun Relief Mask combines seawater and essential oil to calm, nourish and restore skin exposed to too much sun. The Spa also recommends the healing properties of its own home grown aloe vera - a soothing wrap for sun parched skin.

Whether you plan to catch just a few rays on vacation, or many, plan to treat yourself (and your skin) to a visit to The Spa at Harbour Village.

TO SOAK OR NOT TO SOAK...

That is the question. One's pleasure may be to relax, rejuvenate, or sooth that tired achy body. Whatever your pleasure may be, the cascading waterfall at the Spa is the answer.

The cascades at Harbour Village are many things to many people. Whether a diver, snorkeler, adventure seeker, or out to simply enjoy the leisure of the island, refuge is discovered at the rooftop cascading pool.

After toting around dive equipment, exhausted by the beauty of the sea, Harbour Village guests find their way to the spa to enjoy the cascading waterfall. Sitting under the falls as the water massages tired achy muscles is a great way to unwind and reacclimate to life above the deep
blue sea.

Cap it off with a massage or mineral rich algae mask from our talented therapists and, voila! A relaxed, ache-free body is yours.

Or, perhaps you're feeling sluggish after soaking up rays on our white sandy beach. Then the cascades offer you an instant energizer. Let the tingly falls gt/cascades2 stimulate you from head to foot to shape you up for an evening of dining and dancing, or simply feeling good.

For centuries, "taking of the water" or "baths" rich with minerals has been known to heal all kinds of ailments, as well as to serve as a beauty aid.

The wife of Napoleon III, while not the first, is said to have discovered slimming properties of the waters flowing from springs. King Henry IV ordered construction of a public bath to collect "the waters."The waters would cascade over him and into the bath where he would remain until he felt the healing minerals take effect.

While the cascades at Harbour Village are not filled with natural spring minerals on the order of Henry IV, the benefits of sitting beneath the cascades (sense of well being, relaxation, stress reduction and rehydration) just might make you feel like royalty.
