ADVENTURES IN TRAVEL EXPO A SUCCESS
New York, NY… January 12, 2004 – The New York Office of the Antigua and Barbuda Department of Tourism and the Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association (AHTA), teamed up to participate in a three-day, promotional event, January 9th - 11th at the Jacob Javitz Convention Center in New York City.
The show, dubbed ‘Adventures in Travel Expo’, sponsored by American Express (premier sponsor) and the New York Post, is the largest in the world and attracted over 500 exhibitors, over 70,000 consumers, as well as retail Travel Agents and the Media. Its main object is to promote the destinations adventures and eco-tourism.
The Director of Tourism for the United States, Mr. David Fernandez, said he was very pleased with the response and stated,
“This niche market is growing rapidly and is becoming more popular with North Americans as they love to intermingle with Mother
Nature.” He said that he was also very happy that our destination, Antigua and Barbuda, can now boast of several tours of this nature including South Coast Horizons, Kayaking, Swimming with the Rays, Barbuda’s Bird Sanctuary, the National Parks, Safari Jeep Tours and many more other popular tours, thus affording our visitors more activities during their stay.
Ms. Jennifer Whyte representing the Antigua Hotels and Tourist Association (AHTA) expressed her delight with the response and the interest shown by visitors to the booth.
Also representing Antigua and Barbuda’s Tourism Office were Glentis Thomas, Sandra Reid and Shermain Jeremy, and Linda McDonough represented Coco Point Lodge and North Beach in Barbuda.
