With a New Face on the Old Russian Capital, Moscow Turns 850

Rising from the Ashes

The Christ the Savior Church is one of the largest and most publicized reconstruction projects in Moscow. The church which is being rebuilt for the third time is receiving a great deal of publicity in Moscow as well as in Europe and the US. The story behind the church is one of mystery and intrigue and now with it’s reconstruction many people are traveling all the way to Moscow to see it. The exact date of it’s opening has not been established as of yet but they expect it to be completely opened in the year 2000. For now the bottom level is functioning but you can only attend services by personal invitation. Once it is completed it will be functioning as a religious center for all of the general public.

Moscow has really done quite a turn-around in the past couple of years. Its five star hotels are comparable to those in Europe. Upscale travelers as well as business people can expect the same level of service that they receive in Europe.

It’s time and time again that Muscovites are being told how wonderful their treatment and hospitality is to their guests. In June of ‘97 Moscow, hosted by Mr. Luzhkov held an annual convention for all the mayors of major cities throughout the world, which takes place in different cities every year. At the end of the convention the mayor of Tokyo said that there was no reason to have these conventions ever again in any other city because he could not imagine better treatment and hospitality anywhere. That was in June and when these same people came back in September for the 850th celebration they not only found a newer and greater Moscow but they said they were even more impressed.
