Hi,
We have just returned from a week at Rawlins. It was our seven or eighth visit over the past 10 years.
Its style and smaller size is more low key than the other two plantation inns and it suits us perfectly. The rooms are decorated in a west indian style with ceilings fans, no phones, and no other distractions. The grounds have beautiful flowers, vegetables, and fruit trees, and you are surrounded by cane fields.
The food is exquisite. The four-course dinner prepared by Claire Rawson is unbeatable. She uses local fruits and vegetables and produces the most delicious soups, salads, side dishes, and desserts that I have ever tasted. Just can't get that food up here. Vegetarians are quite happy there and the owners cheerfully accommodate your wishes.
There is also a west indian buffet lunch served that is quite different from the dinners. They will make salads or sandwiches for guests, who prefer to eat lighter at lunch.
The views are spectacular, the volcano is behind you and St. Eustatius and Saba nearby.
No matter what your decision about where to stay, you won't go wrong but do try to visit all of the inns, at least for a drink, while you are on the island.
Have a wonderful time.
