Hi Yvette,
Lucky you! I wrote 2 of the reviews on TBR on the Where to Stay website. My husband and I love this resort. It is the only resort on the Caribbean waters and is beach/water front. The pictures on the website accurately depict the resort and it's restaurant, the Sunset Cafe. The walk to the beach is very short and you can access it from the back of the building, when you walk around the pool and restaurant, or you can walk across the large front yard with the sidewalk. Keep an eye out for the green vervet monkeys that love the pool area. They are so cute.
The rooms are HUGE and nicely decorated with everything you need. You can keep the heavy blowdryer at home because the bathrooms are equipped with one. The rooms have either sliding doors onto a patio or out to a sun deck. What a view! You are warmly welcomed and the service is great. The maids are very nice ladies who keep your room spotless.
If I was to say one negative thing about either room we stayed in, and I hate to, the only thing we really badly missed was an oven. Both rooms we stayed in had no oven. There were stovetops, but no oven to broil a steak or cook something in. When we return, I would specifically ask if there was a suite with a full oven in it next time.
The water is divine. The snorkeling is great. If you go out into the water in front of the resort, you can swim to the left near the mountain and swim all around the rocks to the other side which is South Friar's Bay. Best snorkeling on the island in our opinion.
As far as bugs go, I am so surprised at the responses about bugs. I must not be sweet enough. We have been to the island in the months of September, April and July. The only-only time we experienced any problem with bugs was right after the 5-10 minute rain in the early evening. We would always seem to be walking at the time, and ended up running to get to our destination because of the mosquitos/no-see-ums. In 10 minutes, it was all over till the next day and the next rain.
I have seen people walking around with welts on their legs and arms though; that I can say. I always wondered where they had been. The rainforest was bug free as Anon posted - we were both shocked with that.
You will love TBR. It is a great place and very affordable. Be sure to take the rainforest tour with Royston (see posting below) and do the all day all inclusive catamaran trip over to the sister island of Nevis. See Turtle Beach on Sunday to see the steel band and the monkeys which you can feed fruit. Do NOT forget your camera.
Have a super time and congratulations to you both!
