Just back from a week in St. Kitts. Had a great time, stayed at Timothy Beach Resort, we had a larger room with kitchen, living room, facing the ocean and salt pond. Food at resort was good but we ate out most of the time.
Sprat Net was great…good food and reasonably priced. Fisherman’s wharf was overated, overpriced and service was the worst we seen anywhere. (30 minutes to get drinks and the place was empty). I see why they add 10% service charge to bill, it’s because they don’t deserve any tips since service is bad. Marshal’s was excellent and PJ’s also good. We did the Catamaran to Nevis with snorkeling at Shitten bay and BBQ on Nevis, excellent trip. We also took ferry to Nevis with guided tour of Nevis, a little boring and roads on the backside of island are really bad. Not a lot of shopping or sight seeing in Charlestown, no one was around and some stores closed early. We spent a couple of hours at a bar overlooking the ocean and St. Kitts waiting for our ferry.
Atlantic side of the ocean near Papillon and Marriott is nice but if you don’t stay there, your not welcomed to their bar or restaurants. Security at Marriott wouldn’t let us off the beach to have lunch or a drink since we weren’t guests…. I bet they would let us in the front door to the casino! On a similar note, Timothy Beach Resort will accept anyone at their bar and restaurant. There are also several other bars on the strip of beach which doesn’t care where your from…Monkey bar is great place to meet all kinds of people from everywhere, the place was packed every sunset.
We didn’t see any advertising about the train. Stores in town didn’t know anything about it. I thing they have some serious marketing to do, our tour representative didn’t mention it and I wasn’t about to start calling around to get more info. Oh well, their loss.
The downtown Basseterre area is really neat, you need to venture down some side streets to see all of it. We enjoyed spending time downtown.
The people of St. Kitts are definitely the friendliest we have met on any island. The Monkey Bar is a great place to meet locals and tourists from all over the island.
