Hello everyone -

We returned from Nevis last week - sorry this is the first chance I've had to post since then. This whole "work" thing is way overrated and simply takes up too much of my time...

We stayed one night on St. Kitts in the Palms Hotel and the rest at Mount Nevis. The Palms is a great stop over, cheap, clean and right in the middle of downtown. The Mount Nevis was wonderful, as usual. The newly refurbished rooms are gorgeous. The kitchen units have brand a new fridge, toaster, microwave and coffee makers.

Everything is very dry and brown - the driest I've ever seen it in 6 years. Even saw a burn pile go out of control and burn off someone's lawn...

We ate out for all of our meals (ok - why did I need the room with the kitchen? For the view and the fridge!). Stonewalls, Mt. Nevis and Banana's (at sunset of course) were all wonderful for dinner. Seafood Madness was a great meal for cheap - I can't remember who made the recommendation but thanks!! Oualie Beach Club has a nice lunch menu too. And of course Sunshines - I had to have my intake of lobster and killer bees.

We've never been to Oualie Beach before and found it is fantastic for swimming. It's very calm, shallow and ALL sand - no need for water walkers! We didn't snorkel as we didn't bring our equipment - but next time - that's a must do. (We could've rented - but I'd rather use my own gear...) The star fish in that bay are HUGE - you can just walk along and check them out.

Historical sites: Cottle Church near the Mount Nevis has had some major restoration. They've leveled a road to get to it and a nice information area has been added to it. We found the Baths and were surprised to see the Hotel is being restored into a historical site. The Botanical Gardens are faring well thru the drought and Martha's Tea Room for lunch was yummy. We found the access road to Lover's Beach - what a nice un-touched piece of beach. Bring your own cooler, chair and umbrella, spend the day...

Other than that - we were very lazy. The Carib's were cold, the rum punches were rummy and the Ting was amply laced with CSR everywhere we went.

We rented our car from M&M (Marlon Brando). It was very nice and clean. All the road work is now complete for 1/2 of the island so the roads are WAY better thru the most populated areas.

The airport is finished and looks wonderful - next time I'll be on that American flight from San Juan straight to Nevis for sure!

Now we're home and had snow last night - sigh... I'm counting the days until we return, again...

Gail
