I stayed at the Marriott March 15-23 several weeks after it did it's soft opening. My wife and I enjoyed it as each day went by. With the soft opening, things that were supposed to be open still weren't or had strange hours.
First of all, I recommend this hotel for a great relaxing place to recharge in the sun. So as you read below, read this positively, because we really enjoyed our 8 nights there.
Front desk staff: excellent, know the area and are a great resource for information. Tell Don hi, from Shawn.
Lobby bar staff: good, waitresses slow
Main restaurant 24/7: Staff very good, cooks very good, breakfast food is very good. $35.00US for 2 buffet.
Itallian Rest: SLOW, waitresses atitude was one of hhhmmmm, how shall I say, stressed. Food good dinner was about $90.US w/o wine.
Casino: Beautiful! This was done correctly when it was opened. This is also where the only ATM machine is, so plan ahead to get your cash when it is open. Didn't introduce myself to Monica, but did meet the Manager of the casino, nice guy.
Pools: 3 pools, a south and north pool that are very quiet and unoccupied as they have no refreshments. The main pool has it's swim up bar and lunch type food. Drinks are well poured and lots of alcohol. Food is okay. Waitresses are VERY slow as they seem to visit with each other more then they served us.
Beach: right in front, calm and safe. There are plenty of covered cabananas with chairs and all. They have a few Marriott hotel staff watching the beach most of the time. There are many people that will come by and try and sell things, including hair braids, aloe vera massages etc.
Rooms were clean: Our room was never slept in before. We had the most Southern room on the floor above the main lobby (3?) This is a great room because it has the largest patio, rather then a balcony. It faces East to the morning sun and overlooks the South pool. The patio is 3/4 uncovered.
Maids did a fine job all week. There was no room service when we were there.
The tennis courts are indoor/outdoor material.
Avis on site in lobby. Rental of a 3-day or more contract will allow you to use a car in Nevis on a swap for a day.
I would expect that the lobby 24 hours gift shop is now open.
Finally, in the north room area, they have a room converted to a TV/computer room. 2 PC's conneted to a LAN and a laser printer in the room. You can hook up your own camera, flash car reader, etc, to look at the digital pictures you have taken. If you have your own E-Maill account you can access E-Mail as well.
Enjoy your stay. we did and we will come back.
