Marriott and sightseeing

My family recently returned from a 7-night stay on St. Kitts at the Marriott. We were upgraded to a wonderful suite (platinum award) and for the most part were wonderfully treated. The hotel was not crowded while we were there, except for the weekend when 2 large groups met there (watch out in the breakfast buffet line when those hungry travelers arrive). Our favorite activity was a trip into the rain forest with Greg's Safaris. He is a wonderful guide and passionate about preserving the rain forest. The best meal and service we had was at Marshall's, a nice walk from the Marriott. We went into Basseterre to the Ocean Terrace Inn one evening and listened to the live music as we ate a West Indian buffet. The view was wonderful and the music outstanding. We also enjoyed seeing the monkeys at Turtle Beach. We spent our "pool time" at the North Pool and there were never more than 10 people there; usually there were only the 4 of us. Thanks to the Marriott for acquainting us with an island we would not have visited otherwise simply because we did not know very much about it. As with most everything, there is good and bad. The Kittitians we asked were glad for the Marriott to be there. Tourism brings in more money than any other industry by far. But tourism does change the flavor of a place. The difficulty comes in finding the right balance. I wish them well and will continue to help them as I can.
