mini-trip report -- Marriott, etc

This is a mini-report because I'm writing it while in my room at the Marriott! So yes, the internet connection in the rooms is up and running, which is a very nice and convenient feature.

The Marriott has a number of other nice features: wonderful beds & pillows, very nice staff, and the breakfast buffet is excellent. However, as a frequent visitor to St. Kitts for the past near two decades, I can't say I would stay here again. It's just not to my style and taste -- too big, too gaudy in style. The main building is what really bothers me, because it stands out like a sore thumb along the Atlantic coast and just is not, in my opinion, at all attractive. I wish they'd built it more in the style of the Four Seasons on Nevis: low to the ground and with care taken to blend in with the surroundings.

But, that said, at $119/night including breakfast it was really too good a deal to pass up. Be warned, though, that when they say "resort view" rooms, they literally mean it: our room looks smack dab at the building next to it and you can only see any of the grounds and a tiny patch of the ocean from a corner of the balcony.

Flying via US Air and connecting in San Juan with Caribbean Sun was a breeze -- everything on time and the staff at Caribbean Sun were excellent. When we checked in for our boarding passes they made a point to check that our luggage had arrived in San Juan and made sure to tell us when it had arrived to be loaded on the plane! Can't get more personal service than that.

It was great running down to Friars Beach as soon as we checked in last night and staying for the sunset with Olivia, Hanley, and the crew at Sunset Beach Bar. Then we went to the Friday night BBQ at Frigate Bay Beach Resort and were treated to an outstanding BBQ dinner and fun entertainment. Everyone there was wonderful and we couldn't believe how everyone remembered us there, even though it had been three years since our last visit.

Tonight it's time to revisit the Ballahoo for some conch in garlic butter and rum and banana sandwiches -- yum! So glad to be back here, I can't believe now I was able to stay away for so long...
