Hey! Eli. Is this The Maltese Falcon owned by Tom Perkins the former Hewlett Packard Director who caused the big scandal? If so, your right it is the largest privately-owned sailing yacht in the world at 88 meters (289.1 feet).

I thought all the scandal at HP was brought on by the female chairperson who had hired a bunch of spies to investigate the rest of the execs......i think Mr. Perkins was a whistle blower.....n e way the yacht is an engineering masterpiece.

I read an interesting bio on Perkins! As well as making his $ investing in the upstarts of Amazon, Genentech, etc (wise investment choices I'd say) (after leaving HP) he has also written a book: "Sex and the Zillionaire" - no kidding - can buy it on Amazon! Love that photo of the yacht that you posted awhile back, Eli! Quite the boat - think it charters for around $300K/wk (not incl food, bev, etc).

Yes CC, I agree that the classics are way more beautiful, but there isn't a more awesome yacht than the Maltese Falcon with its ground breaking designs and concepts. The Dyna Rig is the most amazing design in sailing that the world has seen in over a 100 years. No ropes! To read about it is facinating but to see it all work as she trims easily while doing over 20 knots.....will take your breath away.
As far as i understand, she is $385K a week plus expenses and the TIP! Nanum i have some more images. Email me at elifuller @ hotmail . com and i will send u the links.

Hi Eli, Did you see the Maltese Falcon moored in English harbour opposite Catherines cafe on Thursday. We were there in the evening and it looked spectacular.
PS we enjoyed the eco trip on Monday, we will do the extreme tour again nex year.

Tony and Kate, glad you enjoyed the trip. Yes i did see her there while I was at the coctail party for the regatta. I had been driving the press boat for the video and stills guys. She was touching the bottom as she sat there and still was about 30 feet from the sea wall. As the sunset, she sure looked good.

Eli - Perkins was protecting his Board buddy George Keyworth, because he was leaking confidential HP business to the WSJ. Dunn exposed him and it pi--ed Perkins off. Not good to do that to an extremely wealthy good-old-boy!

That said, back to what is important - in the end The Maltese Falcon is an engineering marvel. Not so sure about its' owner.

I have to say I think that boat has a bit of an identity crisis. She doesn't know if she's a clipper, a power boat or a chinese junk. She was certainly causing quite a stir on Thursay outside English Harbour though.

Who needs Christmas lights ay night, when she's in harbour.

Eli,

Great photo of the Maltese Falcon! I will be soon be uploading some I took yesterday - the final day of racing. We were out on the boat and whilst it turned we raced out on the dinghy just 10 metres away from the MF. I took some great photos. For the first time whilst it's been here it had all it's sails out - such an awesome sight! The best chance is to take photos while it's turning. When it's on the straight it just flies and you just can't keep up with it.

actually if you goto one of the photograpers sites you will see some of the images he shot while i drove him between the yachts including the MF doing 25 mph with all her sails up the first day. We were 8 miles from the coast in that shot. http://www.amoryross.com/detected.php?page=&pass=
