New York Office of the Department of Tourism Sponsors “Island Night”
At Rockefeller Center

New York, NY… July 07, 2004 – The world-famous Rockefeller Center was converted to a slice of Antiguan and Barbudan paradise as the Department of Tourism in New York sponsored “Island Night at the Rink”, a lively evening of promoting the twin-island nation. Restaurant Associates, representing some of the finest eating establishments in the New York City area, teamed up with the Dept. of Tourism for the event.

Hundreds of patrons of the renowned Rockefeller Center Garden Café (converted from the famous skating rink each summer) along with thousands of passersby, were treated to the rhythmic sounds of City South Steel Orchestra, an all-Antiguan steel band based in New York.

The Staff of the New York Office distributed thousands of brochures about Antigua & Barbuda, in a very festive atmosphere. Assisting the New York Office were representatives from Blue Waters Hotel and the Elite Group. Representatives from Air Jamaica were also on hand to assist in this promotional effort. Our own Suzie’s Hot Sauce, generously donated by Rosie McMaster was the “hot pick” of the evening.

A winner was drawn from business cards to receive a 7-night/8-day all-inclusive stay for two at the Jolly Beach Resort, kindly donated by Mr. John Arrindell.

David Fernandez, Director of Tourism for the USA said, “Promoting tourism is the purpose of these events, and we’ve reached a great number of potential visitors today.” He continued, “But equally, we are extremely proud to be showcasing our beautiful home in this historic location right in the heart of the Big Apple. “
