New York, NY… July 6, 2004 – In a brief but somber ceremony at The New York Office, two police officers representing New York’s Police Commissioner, Ray Kelly, handed over an Antigua and Barbuda flag that was recovered at the site of the World Trade Center.
In the absence of Ambassador John Ashe, Mr. David Fernandez, Director of Tourism/USA, accepted the flag on behalf of the Permanent Mission.
The Minister of Tourism, External Affairs, International Transportation and Trade, the Hon. Harold E. Lovell was immediately notified.
It will be remembered that three Antiguans and Barbudans lost their lives in this tragic event on September 11, 2001. The handing-over ceremony was held in front of a memorial painting dedicated to the three, namely Catherina Robinson, Emelda Perry and Albert Joseph.
